RE:Contest Winners Announced!
(Date Posted:07/05/2009 10:18 AM)
Here is a suggestion that the Amioo admin could consider is that everyone starts out with a new site from scratch instead of using your own site this would be fair to everyone, and one less problem. I entered this contest for the fun of it win or lose but alot of the fun was taken out from the scratch when one would start to condem the others this isnt what we taught our own children about sportsmanship so why are we demonstating and talking this way. Congratulations to all the ones who made the final a job well done. Amioo has run into alot of obstacles with this contest but i feel they have learnt from the issues that have come about and fell the next one will be better that is how you grow and learn is from trying which they did. Lets all give them a big hand for the great job they did. HUgzzzzzzzz Gina

Hi Dev, Nice to see you are still alive and kicking. The gang has been concerned for you. Damn shame you have to come back to a mess like this. I would really hate to see all those that enjoyed the contest and used it as an opportunity to show off their talents and groups penalized on account of the misdeeds of a few.
Anyway, Nice to see you back online again.

Reply to develish1uk (07/05/2009 11:00 AM) I have to say I'm rather saddened by some of the posts here.
This was supposed to be a FUN competition, intended to encourage creativity and get users visiting other's forums to see what was possible. I think some have taken things far too seriously, and as a result we've ended up with all sorts of accusations being thrown around.
As for all the stuff about members voting for their own forum, can I just point out that quite a few entries were done on forums created just for the purpose of entering. Sometimes because the owner didn't want to open up their main forum, and sometimes because they didn't even own their own but were just a member of other peoples. How is Admin supposed to monitor votes received in that case? Do you seriously expect them to check and remove every vote that comes from ANY forum the creator belongs to? Would you want your vote excluded just because the person who created the skin also happened to belong to your forum?
To be honest, considering the behaviour of some members, both during and after the competition, I wouldn't blame Admin if they never ran another one. Yes, I agree that it was supposed to be a fun competition. I can't speak for others but it was for me despite the things that happened.
Yes, some people took it far too seriously... to the point that Aimoo removed votes from one entry. So that is one accusation that proved to be undeniably true.
I don't believe anyone was complaining about the forums created for contest entry purposes in order to protect their main forums. Or that forum members were voting for their forum's skin entry. We all understand that. However, one of the legitimate complaints was with certain forum members voting more than once under multiple usernames to pad the votes for their forum's entry. Aimoo admin found them and removed them... so yes, they do have the ability to monitor this.
I would happily give up my right to vote in any future contest I enter if Aimoo made a rule that any member of a forum with an entry is ineligble to vote. That's how most contests in the real world operate. It removes the vote bias and allows all entries to compete on even footing, and on their own merit. Small forums can't compete against larger forums under the current circumstances... they're beat before the voting even begins.
This is simple, common sense... not rocket science. And this is squarely in Aimoo's lap if they decide to run future contests.

If only aimoo had been kind enough to explain what made them choose another skin instead of the one with the most votes, none of this talk would have happened, in my humble opinion.
The more we talked, the more complex the subject got and we missed the central motive.
We only wanted a simple explanation from the very beginning of the announcement. ... and I'm asking again, for the last time :
What's the criteria that causes to choose the second instead of the first?
By the way, I'm not asking this to start a new chaos, or new ideas, etc.
Please, only the aimoo speakers reply this post !

kritiyas... Although it would be beneficial to know, you may never receive an answer to this question.
Aimoo stated up front that the winner would be selected by a combination of votes and their staff decision. So ultimately, they have the final say as it is their service and contest.
I can think of several reasons why the first place vote getter ended up second but I won't speculate on them in here. I have nothing negative to say about any of the actual entries, no interest in starting a fight over it, and like you, I'm not privy to the information or criteria that Aimoo used to base their final decision on.
It could simply be that as a group, the Aimoo staff unanimously liked the winning entry better and overrode the votes.

We are sorry to make you confused about the contest result. The best designer was chosen according to the vote result and our decision. And what is the criteria we used to judge the final 15 submissions? Please read the Contest Introduction in details as it indicated that Choosing Winners After the submission deadline on June 28, 2009, we will choose the best 10-20 skins to have the qualification to be voted/judged by all Aimoo users on the Aimoo ShowOff Forum. The final choice will be made based on the vote result and how well the designers have customized the skin and made it best approach to the theme of Independence Day.
Please stop the endless discussion on the issue and enjoy yourself here. Thank you very much.

Jealousy rears it's ugly head. Sadly Admin. people just can't seem to enjoy something like this...and sadly also, some just can't take the time to read..and understand what they read.
I enjoyed this contest...and look forward to more. Always love seeing the talent of others...and there was tons of talent in this contest.

Thank you for your reply. In my case, I had no confusion about the contest results or the judging. Please be aware though that for some people, here is where the confusion came in.
When you say...
"The final choice will be made based on the vote result and how well the designers have customized the skin and made it best approach to the theme of Independence Day."
To a native, English-speaking person, that statement really only implies that the person voting for a skin should be basing his/her vote on how well the designer customized the skin and how well it fit the theme of Independence Day. It does not necessarily imply that the Aimoo staff itself will be involved in the judging and final selection of the winning entry, or that the Aimoo staff could override the popular voting results.
It wasn't until after the contest ended and the winner was declared that Aimoo changed this statement to "The winner was selected based on vote result and staff decision."
You leaving out "and staff decision" in your original statement is what created the confusion and lead to all the posting about it after the contest ended.
In the future, it would eliminate a lot of confusion to have more clearly written contest rules. If you would like help in clearly writing future contest rules, I will be more than happy to assist you in doing so. Then you won't have to deal with the endless posting about it afterwards.
Thank you.

First of all congrats to all the winners. Thank you Aimoo for this great oppurtunity for all. Maybe Aimoo decided it wasn't fair to have the top winner be someone whom could not follow the rules laid out even if they did have the most votes since that is a form of cheating as well. After all pretty sure "Happy 4th of July" equals words even if it does have smilies on it. see rule "
5. Don't include words in your images because Aimoo is used by people all over the world who do not speak English."
Also they should be darned glad Aimoo let them have the year in my way of thinking you should have been banned from the contest winning all together. They were very very generous in giving you the year. Just think of it this way you have a year to win more in other contests. (Maybe you can win top prize next time without cheating)
This bit has been edited by Karrier because it was bang out of order, this is a warning, do NOT write about aimoo members that way again, you have been warned!!
Also I do not see a thing wrong with campaigning for votes that is what our great democracy is built on it isn't it? This being a contest for our Independence Day Skin what better one to exercise the use of our freedoms and our government ways instead of a dictatorship.
